What the Alkaloid Profile Reveals
Mitragynine sits at 1.14%, accounting for 63.3% of total alkaloids. But what makes Red Thai Maeng Da particularly interesting is its speciociliatine content, at 0.33%, it is the highest absolute speciociliatine level of any red strain we carry, and at 18.5% of the total profile, it contributes meaningfully to the character. Speciociliatine is the C3 diastereomer of mitragynine, meaning it has the same atoms but arranged differently in three-dimensional space. Research suggests this structural difference results in a distinct receptor binding profile. The combination of relatively high mitragynine and high speciociliatine gives Red Thai Maeng Da a more layered alkaloid composition than simpler reds.
The Maeng Da Name
"Maeng Da" was coined by an American distributor and has become the most recognised name in kratom. In 1943, Thailand banned kratom cultivation, pushing production to Indonesian farms.
