This list is described in Regulation (EC) No 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union. Therefore they cannot be sold for human consumption. What is kratom?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a tropical tree from Southeast Asia. Traditional users in Asia chewed the leaves to improve endurance and mood. Today, the leaves are dried, ground into fine kratom powder and exported worldwide. Kraatje has an extensive range of kratom powders, kratom capsules and kratom gummies.

The European botanist who first described the kratom plant, now called Mitragyna speciosa, was the Dutch colonial botanist Pieter Willem Korthals in 1839. Korthals, working in Southeast Asia, named the plant Stephegyne speciosa. His description was based on observations in its native regions (Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia). The plant was later reclassified, with its final name and classification as Mitragyna speciosa provided by George Darby Haviland in 1859. Now the three goes by its more popular nickname Kratom.

Kratom types

There are really only three types of Kratom; red kratom, white kratom and green kratom. The type gets determined by the vein of the leaf. The Kratom trees grow mainly in Southeast Asia like on the Indonesian Island Borneo, or in Malaysia. The Kratom effects are strongly dependent on the alkaloid content of the Kratom leaves, with mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-oh) being the most important components. The quality of Kratom is determined by region, age, harvesting method and the method of processing. We only do carry a few types of Kratom, because there are simply not many more! There are stores who apply wild Kratom names to their products with the most diverse promised effects to make you believe that it is something special. We only sell good Kratom with simple names, that refer only the region where it is harvested and colour of the leaf (except the Red Thai because it's not from Thailand). Kratom regions and quality

All kinds of Kratom trees grow in various regions, but are mainly found in Indonesia. Thai Kratom comes from Thailand or Indonesia, Kratom is legal since 2021 in Thailand. On Bali there is not even a single Kratom tree, so Bali Kratom strains do not really exist (just a name for Red Borneo)! Kratom quality is determined by the region, the tree species (red, green or white vein vein in the leaf), age (the older the more Alkaloid) and most importantly the time, the techniques and the processing of the harvest. This results in a high and in particular, consistent quality Kratom powder, with stable potency. You can also see this in the dark color and fine structure of our Kratom powders. The darker the older the trees and the finer the powder is.
