What is Reishi?
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), also known as Ling Zhi in Chinese, is a glossy, reddish-brown mushroom with a long tradition in Asian culture. Within that tradition, it has held a symbolic place for thousands of years, closely tied to ideas of longevity and vitality. The reverence for this mushroom in Asia dates back some 4,000 years.
What makes Reishi stand out from other functional mushrooms is its rich composition. The key bioactive compounds include polysaccharides, beta-glucans, triterpenes, and ganoderic acids. It also contains various amino acids and minerals such as germanium, selenium, and manganese. The triterpenes are especially characteristic of Reishi and are not commonly found in other mushroom species.
Grown on solid oak wood
This is a crucial difference compared to many commercial Reishi products. Our Reishi mushrooms are grown on solid oak wood in the Chinese highlands, closely mimicking the mushroom's natural growing conditions. Growing on whole hardwood logs allows the mushroom to develop its full range of natural compounds over a longer period. Many competitors grow their Reishi on sawdust or grain substrates, which results in a very different product.
Only pure fruiting bodies are used. No mycelium, no substrate residue, no fillers. The organic production follows the actual valid EU regulations. The result is a natural, full-bodied extract that preserves the compound profile found in whole fruiting bodies, material that has held a central place in Asian medicinal tradition for over 40 centuries.
Traditional use and combinations
Reishi has a wide range of traditional uses. In traditional Chinese medicine, it has long been regarded as a general tonic. Popular traditional combinations include Reishi with Shiitake and Agaricus, Reishi with Cordyceps, and Reishi with Lion's Mane (Hericium).
